InformationPages announces the availability of its LocalScout community directory application for the iPhone. Yellow page publishers can now use LocalScout to extend their print directories to reach users even while on the go with their iPhones. The application offers a range of advanced features including coupons, driving directions and highly accurate speech recognition from Yap, Inc. that makes finding local businesses easy and convenient.
Users can find a local business by toggling between a standard list-view and map view, get directions, click to call a business, download coupons, browse business’ websites, and find enhanced information on business profile pages. In addition, map navigation – unique to the InformationPages’ mobile platform – allows users to navigate listings by simply manipulating the map. Listing results are automatically updated as users scroll or change the zoom level on the map without requiring the user to resubmit their search.
LocalScout Mobile offers speech recognition to make finding a listing fast and easy. Entering a simple search term like “Mexican Restaurant” using the standard iPhone touch interface can take well over 15 keystrokes. With speech recognition, users simply push a button and speak their search query – greatly reducing the number of steps required to find a local business. InformationPages has partnered with Yap for its highly accurate speech recognition capabilities.
“High accuracy speech recognition is critically important to the user experience and we needed a technology that consistently delivers very high performance,” said Carey Bernier, COO of InformationPages, “That’s why we turned to Yap. They provide a speech recognition service that is incredibility precise and fast – truly amazing.”
LocalScout Mobile is powered by the same award winning publication engine that powers the InformationPages LocalScout Internet directories. Changes made in the web-based Content Management System are immediately available on both the Internet and mobile applications. Content already available in existing directories is available in real-time in the mobile application including listing enhancements and sort order priority.
“Even though we designed our application to be as user-friendly as possible, we also kept our publishing partners in mind during the entire process,” said Bernier. “Size and seniority is maintained in the standard relevance search so that enhanced listings and actual print product can be factored into the search results order. We want to position publishers’ mobile and Internet products to enhance their print directories and the products they already sell.”
Android and BlackBerry versions will be available soon. Come see InformationPages’ newest technologies in booth 200 at the ADP Annual Convention and Partners Trade Show, March 17-20, in The Woodlands, Texas. For more information, please contact InformationPages sales at 608-824-1386.
